At
Island of Peace Yoga on Gabriola Island, we strive to bring the best
that yoga has to offer from the east and the west. From the East,
classes and workshops are offered in the experiential science of yoga
as handed down through the 5000 year old, unbroken yoga lineage of the
Himalayan Tradition. And from the West, hatha yoga classes are offered
in the style of B.K.S. Iyengar. The studio is fully equipped with props
to allow each student to have a safe, full experience.
Private therapeutic yoga sessions are also available.
Though the grace of my teachers and through the complete science of yoga,
the mission of Island of Peace Yoga is to:
Reduce the pain of everyone I meet,
Reduce the suffering of everyone I meet,
Improve the happiness of everyone I met,
and to perform this mission lovingly, skillfully, and selflessly.

About the Instructor - Tim Bruns
The journey which led me to become a yoga instructor on this most beautiful island has been filled with rich experiences. I have been a philosopher and a monk, a patented researcher, an ultra-distance athlete, a yoga college valedictorian, and a cancer patient.
As a yoga student, I trained and practiced exclusively in the Iyengar style of hatha yoga for many years. This phenomenal system of yoga helped me manage a chronic back condition while continuing to train and compete in marathon and ultra-marathon length athletic events around the world. I have studied with many gifted hatha yoga teachers throughout North America; my teacher is Paul Busch. My primary personal practice is in the Himalayan Yoga Tradition, which is a 5000 year old tradition from the cave monasteries of the Himalayas. The primary focus of the Himalayan Yoga Tradition is the seventh limb of yoga – meditation. My teacher is Pandit Hari Shankar Dabral, Ph.D.
As a yoga instructor, I am trained to teach hatha yoga in the Iyengar style and in the style of the Himalayan Tradition. I am also trained to teach meditation in the Himalayan Tradition as taught by Swami Rama of the Himalayas, his disciples Swami Veda Bharati, and my primary teacher Pandit Dabral. I am certified as a yoga teacher (C.Y.T.) through the Yoga Studio College of Canada as well as through the Himalayan Yoga Tradition and am a registered instructor with the international Yoga Alliance. I am a published yoga science researcher and active member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. I hold a bachelors degree in philosophy and a masters of science degree in occupational safety and health. I have taught classes, and workshops, performed yoga therapy and yogic research studies in Alberta, Yukon Territory, the United States, and India.
I strive to practice and teach with precision, passion, and compassion.
About Our Logo
Our logo was designed and created by Maynard Johnny, Jr. of the Coast Salish First Nation. It represents a human being in meditation, the seventh limb on the tree of yoga, with the sun and moon balanced in the chest. Creating just this balance is the purpose of hatha yoga.
